About the Research Program

HILYTE: Hybrid Integrated Light Sources for Optical Metrology and Sensor Systems

Novel light sources based on photonic integrated sources hold large promise to bring value in many industrial markets, such as the test and measurement sector, industrial metrology, and sensing. A current bottleneck to enable this disruptive potential is the establishment of a dedicated photonics ecosystem that covers all parts of the supply chain, from chip fabrication to testing/packaging and application. The goal of HILYTE is the provision of a dedicated technology platform for photonic integrated systems that meets the requirements of the markets for precision industrial metrology and sensing, centered around novel hybrid integrated laser sources. With the consortium covering all parts of the supply chain and involving academic partners and industrial end-users, the project is ideally suited for focused technology transfer of cutting-edge scientific results and broadband dissemination of the project results for direct application in a commercial setting.

In the consortium, Menlo takes the role of an end-user and application partner, demonstrating the unique advantages of chip-based lasers in the context of industrial precision metrology, in particular for length metrology using narrow-linewidth lasers for interferometrical measurements.
