Advances in optical frequency comb technology: pushing the limits of performance and usability

Come join us for lunch on Tuesday, June 19th at 12:30 pm in Noyes Laboratory 165 and learn about how optical frequency combs are rapidly making the transition from being laboratory systems to more compact, robust, and user-friendly systems that can be deployed in a variety of environments. With fractional stabilities on the order of 10-14 it is now possible to measure the frequency of cw lasers with Hz-level accuracy in a package that is as easy to use as a traditional wavelength meter. When two combs run in tandem it also becomes possible to perform high-resolution spectroscopy over a considerable wavelength range with acquisition times on the ms time scale. During this presentation the core features of these systems will be discussed along with specific applications involving the use of these devices.
