In celebration of the International Day of Light, the 2024 winner of the Optica Foundation’s Hänsch Prize in Quantum Optics has been announced. Raghavendra Srinivas, EPSRC and Balliol Early Career Fellow at the University of Oxford and Senior Quantum Scientist at Oxford Ionics, has been recognized for his work to create and manipulate nonclassical states of trapped ions.

The prize, now in its second year, is sponsored by Menlo Systems, Thorlabs and Hamamatsu Photonics, and aims to support the careers of early-career researchers who are emerging leaders in photonics-enabled quantum science and technology. Michael Mei, co-founder and Managing Director of Menlo Systems said of the prize: “We are, once again, proud to sponsor the Hänsch Prize in Quantum Optics.
