The first measurement of the hydrogen 1S–2S transition frequency using an optical frequency comb dates back to 1999. It yielded a new value accurate to 1.8 parts in 10¹⁴, surpassing all earlier optical frequency measurements by more than an order of magnitude. In 2019, Menlo Systems offers complete solutions for optical clocks, enabling a measurement precision of 10^-18 or better.
