Terahertz spectroscopy

Terahertz spectroscopy is a rapidly evolving field with interesting applications in medical imaging, security, scientific imaging (chemistry, biochemistry, astronomy), communications, and manufacturing. Many molecules, especially biomolecules, provide fingerprint spectroscopic lines in the Terahertz region.

ASOPS

The Asynchronous Optical Sampling scheme can be exploited for high-speed THz-TDS data acquisition. With two fiber lasers synchronized in an asynchronous optical sampling (ASOPS) scheme one can build a rapid scannig Terahertz spectrometer. By avoiding the use of a mechanical delay line for temporal scanning the system enables high-speed and high-resolution data acquisition.

OSCAT

By using a long delay line in an interferometric set-up, slight changes in the repetition rate of a femtosecond lasers translate into a variable delay between a pump pulse (short arm) and a probe pulse (long arm). In OSCAT (Optical Sampling by CAvity Tuning) this is used in advantage for rapid scanning pump-probe spectroscopy. In conjunction with Terahertz antennas, time resolved measurements in the Terahertz region become a snap.
