Mid-IR spectroscopy

Within a molecule, the modes of atomic bond vibrations are linked to specific features in their absorption spectrum. Most of the molecular vibrational frequencies lie in the mid-infrared (mid-IR) spectral region. Mid-IR optical frequency combs enable high-precision and high-sensitivity spectroscopy to study the presence, composition, and structure of molecules, as well as their interaction within a mixture. Such measurements are standard in the analysis of atmospheric gasses and trace gasses, enabling applications in science and industry.
